My Vision: Leading the Institute for the Blind Alumni Association Forward I am Sonam Shashni, currently serving as the Director of the Alumni Association of the Institute for the Blind, Sector 26, Chandigarh. My journey stands as a testament to the power of perseverance, vision, and purpose—a reflection of how dedication and resilience can overcome any barrier. Having spent my formative years at the Institute from 2003 to 2015, I owe my personal and professional foundation to its nurturing environment. My time there was marked by both academic excellence and distinguished athletic achievements. As a hostel student, I found my passion in sports, excelling particularly in the discus and javelin throw, and earning several gold and silver medals at state and national levels. These formative experiences instilled in me a deep sense of discipline, focus, and leadership that continues to guide my professional pursuits. After graduating, I pursued higher education at DAV College, Delhi, which paved the way for a multifaceted career in public service and leadership. My professional trajectory includes a significant tenure as a Surveyor with Indian Railways, a Central Government appointment that honed my administrative and analytical skills. At present, I serve as an Assistant Manager at Canara Bank, where I am responsible for strategic operations and field surveys in Manali. Alongside my career, I have been leading the Alumni Association of the Institute for the Blind for the past four years, focusing on organizational growth, mentorship, and social impact. In this role, my vision is to strengthen and expand the reach of our Association by fostering a robust network of alumni dedicated to guiding and supporting the current students and recent graduates of our Institute. Our collective mission is to empower the next generation with opportunities across diverse academic, technological, and professional arenas. Simultaneously, I am committed to elevating our affiliated NGO to greater prominence, ensuring it becomes a powerful platform for inclusion, innovation, and empowerment. As an alumna and leader, I see myself not merely as a representative of the past but as a catalyst for the future—dedicated to transforming the landscape of opportunity for every member of our community.
