Workshop on "Career Awareness" at Institute for the Blind

Workshop Overview

Following the successful “Reading Without Seeing” workshop, EnAble India conducted a Career Awareness Workshop on 14th July 2025 at the Institute for the Blind, Chandigarh. The workshop was designed for students from classes 9th to 12th with vision impairment. Its primary objective was to help students explore different career opportunities, understand the importance of skill development, and build confidence in planning their future goals.

Facilitators Adil Mir and Rajesh Y guided the students through multiple interactive sessions that combined motivation, goal setting, role modeling, and practical guidance on education and career choices. This workshop also aimed to raise awareness about how technology and accessibility tools can help visually impaired students pursue their aspirations effectively.

Workshop Sessions

The workshop commenced with an Inauguration and Introduction session lasting 45 minutes. The facilitators introduced themselves and shared an overview of EnAble India’s vision, emphasizing the importance of inclusion and empowerment. Students were oriented to the purpose of the workshop and the concept of career awareness. The session included the Video of EnAble India Story, which provided inspiration and set the context for the day’s learning.

This was followed by a Setting Up Expectations session of 45 minutes, where both facilitators and students discussed their expectations and goals for the workshop. The session encouraged participants to express what they hoped to learn and how they viewed their future. It helped build an open and collaborative environment for the day’s activities.

The next session on Importance of Goal Setting and How to Set Up a Goal, conducted for one hour, helped students understand why goal setting is essential for personal and professional growth. Through interactive discussions, facilitators explained the steps involved in setting realistic goals and developing a vision for one’s future. Students actively participated, sharing their own dreams and aspirations while learning how to translate them into actionable plans.

Following this, a Learning from Role Models session was held for one hour. During this inspiring segment, students interacted with a role model with visual impairment who had achieved professional success. The facilitator and role model together shared stories and practical experiences that motivated students to believe in their potential and overcome challenges. This session emphasized that determination and the right use of skills and technology can open diverse career paths.

The final session, Guidance for Further Education and Career Options, spanned 1.5 hours. Facilitators provided detailed insights into various educational streams, training opportunities, and government schemes available for students with visual impairment. The discussion included mainstream and specialized career options such as teaching, digital accessibility, content creation, IT services, and self-employment. Students were encouraged to pursue continuous learning and explore EnAble India’s digital resources for future skill development.
